EL CARMEN, Ecuador — Until recently, the perspective of the new harvest of pepper of Ecuador were not encouraging. Some agriculturists had knocked down the plantations of pepper due to the low international prices which have been repressed for quite long already. Also, the strong rains had not allowed the plants to mature suitably which caused the harvest to delay a little more than expected.

Nevertheless, it is confirmed the harvest will begin in July/August. There are new plantations which are beginning to produce. Rains have stopped allowing the pepper vines to be loaded and developing favorably. Total harvest is expected to be approximately 3000 metric tons, similar amount as previous year.

For this reason, in previous days, executives of Vercex had a tight agenda visiting their key partners as well as current and potential customers to define the strategies to follow in order to place harvest 2006 into the main consuming markets.
