Pepper
(pepper nigrum) is the grown and dried fruit of a bindweed which
has become the most important spice all over the world since year
600 b.C. Even though the principal producers, not only of black
and white pepper but spices in general, are: India, Indonesia, Brazil,
etc., Ecuador offers and meets with all the environmental requirements
needed for proper and normal development of spices. Thanks to our
stable weather we are able to obtain a pepper of high quality as
well as a standard size grain.
In spite there
are records of pepper-planting activity in Ecuador from approximately
20 years, it has been developing at a very slow pace. This was caused
due to the little demand and local consumption of this spice, which
is around 100,000 Kg/year, but most of all due to the lack of marketing
and impulse to encourage the planting of pepper-vines. There has
not been financial resources nor the governmental support needed
to promote and let the world market know the excellent quality of
the Ecuadorian pepper.
After a lot
of marketing efforts we’ve been able to introduce our pepper
into the market of the major consuming countries, such as USA, France,
The Netherlands, Germany, among others countries of the European
Community; We also supply countries of the Andean Community, such
as Peru, ,Chile, Panama and Colombia.
